Recipe: Apple Snack

This Apple Snack is a simple treat that I learned from a mentor, Caroline Barringer, a couple of years ago (Thanks Caroline!). It was one of those “Why didn’t I think of that?” moments. Since then I’ve shared these with many a guest and always get happy faces in return.

Apple Snacks

In this recipe, the salt brings out the natural sweetness of the apple. If you use unrefined sea or land salt (like the Himalayan I used) you’ll get sodium in combination with other naturally occurring trace minerals, replenishing what you lose through sweat on these hot days.

Apple cinnamon salt

The players

Ingredients:

  • 1 small apple
  • Fine-grain salt
  • Ground cinnamon

Directions:

  1. Slice the apple to about 1/4 inch thickness
  2. Sprinkle lightly with salt (I tried to measure this, but it was much less than even 1/8 of a teaspoon)
  3. Sprinkle liberally with cinnamon (I also tried to measure this and it was less than 1/8 of a teaspoon)
  4. Enjoy!
